Purpose
To be blunt, the purpose of the “Learning” category is for my own self-edification. I am writing publicly about the piece I am learning so that I can better formulate my thoughts, shed light on the unknown unknowns, and cultivate the lense in which I view the world.
Notice
As a consequence, in addition to the didactic nature of the writing, my opinions on the topic(s) will manifest. This is unavoidable because we are only given a finite amount of time in this physical reality, so we must be selective in our time allocation—only what is deemed important to us is what we spend time on.
Even within topics that are important to me, I will have varying opinions. I could be quite polemical for one and laud the other. I considered forcing myself to be as objective as possible, but are we not subjective creatures by our nature? If my sole purpose is on maintaining objectivity, then I miss out on the most important aspect of life—living.
Note
Living is inevitably subjective; how can enjoy life if we strip all emotions and beliefs?
For works that are in the “hard” sciences, my writings will be more objective than that of the “soft” sciences or the arts. Notice the phrasing “more objective” does not imply absolute objectivity. Keep this in mind as you venture through “Learnings”.
Recommendations
As a general principle, I would encourage you to consider the following questions. What is your purpose of reading this piece? What are you seeking? I cannot answer these questions for you nor can I present my writing in a way that will appease everyone. Follow the sentiment, “take what is useful and discard what is useless”—it is up to you to define what is useful.
